PCB layout support converts an approved electrical and mechanical brief into a board design and its manufacturing outputs. Define the inputs, design authority, constraints and review deliverables before discussing the layout schedule. A layout service and ownership of the underlying product design are separate responsibilities.

Define the work and deliverable

List what is already approved and what still requires engineering decisions. Mechanical interfaces, component footprints, routing constraints, power distribution and test access need explicit owners. A drawing of the board outline or an incomplete schematic is a starting input, not a complete release brief.

Files and requirements to send

  • Reviewed schematic, BOM and component documentation with approved footprint sources or verification requirements.
  • Board outline, enclosure interfaces, keep-outs, connector locations and relevant height restrictions.
  • Electrical constraints, intended fabrication construction, assembly requirements and expected native or manufacturing output formats.

Decisions to close before release

Decision What to confirm
Design inputs Identify missing symbols, footprints, interface dimensions and unresolved circuit choices.
Review gates Agree when placement, routing, mechanical fit and manufacturing outputs are reviewed.
Handoff Specify the native design files, libraries, exported manufacturing data and revision record required.

A practical planning example

Moving a connector late in layout may change routing, enclosure access and harness geometry. Give fixed interfaces a controlled reference and identify which placements remain negotiable. Review important mechanical and test-access constraints while changes are still manageable.

Does a completed layout mean the product is qualified?

No. Layout completion, rule checking, manufacturability review, circuit verification and product qualification answer different questions. Define which activities are included and who approves the remaining engineering work.

Compare the complete proposal

Ask for the included work, exclusions, setup charges, material responsibilities and schedule dependencies in writing. Use the quote comparison checklist to keep the same configuration and acceptance scope across offers.

Confirm project fit

[NEEDS CLIENT INPUT]: verified manufacturing site, relevant process limits, available equipment, certificates, MOQ and committed lead times for this service. The requirements above are a project-planning guide; availability must be confirmed against your actual files.
