Buying PCBs from China requires a supplier-specific decision. A country’s manufacturing footprint does not establish an individual factory’s process capability, product quality or delivered cost. Use the same technical package and acceptance requirements for every proposal, then compare the evidence behind each commitment.

Identify who will manufacture the board

Establish the contracting entity, manufacturing site and any broker or subcontractor involved. Ask which operations occur at which location and who is responsible for resolving nonconforming product. A useful proposal identifies the actual construction and delivery scope rather than relying on broad claims about a region.

Request evidence relevant to your project: reviewed stackup, material availability, process limitations, inspection plan and sample acceptance records. If a certification is required, verify the issuing body, scope, named site and validity. A logo on a quotation is not a substitute for those checks. This site makes no claim about its own certifications without approved client information.

Compare the complete commercial scope

Line item Question to resolve
Board construction Are thickness, materials, finish, copper and tolerances equivalent?
Engineering and tooling Which setup charges recur after a revision?
Acceptance evidence Are electrical test, coupons and required records included?
Quantity How are over-delivery, shortages and replacement units handled?
Transport Which party arranges dispatch and destination delivery?
Import costs Which current classification and destination-specific charges apply?

Use current advice from the responsible logistics or customs specialist for shipment-specific obligations. Do not reuse a generic tariff percentage or assume that the lowest board price produces the lowest landed cost. The comparison should state currency, validity period, payment milestones and the party responsible for each cost.

Control the engineering handoff

Send one numbered release package and keep the approved response with it. An engineering query should identify the affected feature, proposed change and approval owner. Confirm whether the supplier may modify artwork, substitute material or change a fabrication site. Require the agreed authorization before implementing a change that affects the released configuration.

For a pilot order, define the evidence that allows production to continue. That may include dimensional measurements, electrical-test results and agreed construction verification. Set the sampling and acceptance requirements in the purchase documents; an attractive sample photograph does not define an inspection plan.

Example: two quotes with different assumptions

One proposal includes a specified laminate and construction records; another uses an unspecified equivalent and omits those records. Treat the difference as an unresolved scope item before comparing prices. Ask both suppliers to price the same requirement or ask engineering to approve a documented alternative. Record the decision so later purchase orders do not silently revert to different assumptions.

Does sourcing from China imply a particular MOQ or lead time?

No. Those are supplier-, construction- and schedule-dependent commitments. Request written terms for the actual order. Geographic location also does not establish suitability for HDI, high-current, medical or other demanding applications; obtain evidence for the specific process and intended use.

Review the PCB fabrication RFQ scope and supply chain planning questions. Request a quote with the drawing revision, quantities, acceptance requirements and delivery destination.
